OPSEC/INFOSEC

Official Navy INFOSEC website is located at:  http://www.infosec.navy.mil/

IMPORTANT: Do not post anything in the public (open) forums on Discord that will violate OPSEC. This can include such things as: troop/ship movements, security practices, confidential phone numbers, identification numbers, command specific procedures, etc. We maintain secure forums on the FBI’s LEEP JusticeConnect for such purposes (and even then, please practice OPSEC). The most secure way to talk about such issues with fellow NAVCOPS is to contact them via DSN, in person or .mil email.

Any privately owned website or service is inherently unsecure (even if something such as a group is “private”) as the company/owner can ultimately view any information. Secure sites, such as FBI LEEP or your command’s/military intranet, are appropriate places for such communication. At no time should any classified material be posted, inferred, or discussed on any NAVCOPS Network group, even on FBI LEEP (unclassified only).

Successful OPSEC and INFOSEC relies heavily on the visitor/user of the site.  Refer to your agency, branch, and/or command guidance on use of the internet and OPSEC.

It is recommended you follow some simple guidelines:

OPSEC/INFOSEC Guidelines

  • Do not release classified, unsensitive classified or private information in the public message boards or chat rooms.  This includes ship or troop movements, base security procedures, etc.  Please use the FBI LEEP JusticeConnect community for such purposes or use an appropriate command/military intranet/extranet.
  • When in doubt, do not release information.  If you are unsure of whom you are talking to or if the information is sensitive, do not release it.  Any communication (even military and government email addresses and websites) can be compromised.  Rely on DSN or appropriate secure communication channels.
  • If you encounter a posting or chat that violates OPSEC, please notify the individuals immediately to have them remove it and/or a moderator.
